Serving Dishes
Serving dishes are often a component of melamine dinnerware, along with plates, saucers,
bowls and mugs.
There are two main types of serving dishes. One is a platter, and one is called a tray. A
platter is a large dish that is used to serve food on.
Usually, it is large enough to allow food to be arranged on it in a sort of display. In other
words, a “vegetable platter” is usually referring to a platter, on which are arranged several types of vegetables
in an attractive, articulate fashion.
Platters can be made of plastic, steel, ceramic, or any other study type of material. Some
platters are very fancy, while others are just plain and are used in the kitchen every day.
A tray, on the other hand, is a very large, shallow platform that is useful for carrying things.
Trays are usually used to carry entire plates of food. For example, if you go to a restaurant, they will usually
bring your food out to you on a tray. Once they set the tray down, they will pass out the individual plates of
food.
Trays can be made of many different materials, including wood, melamine, sheet iron, brass,
silver, and even paper mache. Some trays have handles, while others simply serve as platforms. Trays are generally
flat, but have edges on them that are raised. This keeps the contents of the tray from sliding off during use.

There are a few different varieties of trays in use nowadays, including butler’s trays,
cafeteria trays, lazy susan trays, surgical trays, seed trays, and TV trays. Trays can be bought at many different
retail stores all over the world, or can be ordered online if there is not a store near you that sells them. You
can also find older trays in antique stores and other places of that nature.
